You Glow Girl - My Thoughts on The Real Me Program

27 Oct 2021

On my first day at Glow I can remember getting ready and saying to Lee, well moaning to Lee did I have to go as I didn't like people and they might eat me. Truth be told, I was waffling on because my anxiety was skyrocketing. I even said to him I hope they don't make us wear those silly name stickers so everyone remembers your name but you always end up leaving with it on you for the duration of your day as you forget and you're still too nervous to ever tell anyone else they've got theirs on. (Or it might just be me that left with theirs on one day. At 28 name stickers might be a good idea, my memory isn't as great as it used to be. I will honestly say I couldn't remember everyone's name. I needed them more than ever.)

Glow was relaxing, positive and so open. It was informal and I believe everyone felt included. We all came from different backgrounds, history, and although similar experiences in life the one thing we all had in common was that we were in that class for our own reasons and we all got along. It wasn't long before we were making jokes and having banter. I met so many amazing, strong, intelligent women that I hope to remain good friends with.

When asked on the first day why we had come to Glow I was honest and my exact words were "because I don't know who I am anymore." As I've written about before, I was in an abusive, controlling relationship where everything was near enough decided and demanded for me.
Whether it be clothing, going out with family, and even taking days off work because it suited them it can be such a scary, daunting feeling when you suddenly have control back. When I left my relationship I was fearful of making decisions incase it was the wrong one and I tried so hard to say yes to everything and people-pleasing which meant not sharing my opinion incase it wasn't allowed. I didn't know what my thoughts and feeling were towards something because for so long I'd been living through someone else's expectations.

In six weeks The Real Me program with Glow has shown me I can be confident in who I am with others, not just online. I've also learned to not be afraid of sharing opinions and standing up for myself. The main thing I was struggling with when starting Glow was direction, there were so many things spiraling in my head that I thought I needed or wanted to do by a certain age but when I sat and thought about it I realised I was doing what was expected of me instead of what I actually wanted.

Pushing boundaries and stepping out of my comfort zone is scary and anxiety-filling but it built confidence, strength, and also self-belief. I believe in myself and I have set smart goals
to start achieving the things I want to. During the program, I had the opportunity to take part in team-building exercises and also rockclimbing.

That was so much funI said I'd try and I did, I went in with an open mind and had so much fun before even attemping this. I pushed myself and I gave it a go. Did I go as far as I wanted? No! But it's easier to climb the wall higher in your head when your hands aren't burning, going red and your feet are secure on the ground.

Glow's The Real Me Program has had such a positive impact in my life that I know I'd still be feeling a bit stuck if I hadn't gotten the encouragement and pushed myself to go.

If you or anyone you know could benefit from a program like this I highly suggest you check out their website for more information.

Hello February

1 Feb 2021

February has always been an inspirational month for me with so many ideas bursting to be written but this year? I have so many ideas and feel little to no motivation to actually get them typed up. I miss heading out with my notebook in hand and sitting enjoying a hot chocolate in my local Del Pieros or Tim Hortons.

But I'm trying so hard not to dwell on the fact it could be a few months before that's possible and I'm pushing myself to get these posts published!

January Refresh -

- I was slow in the blogging department and by slow I published 2 posts although I have however watched 18 Marvel Movies and the next one is Doctor Strange which I'm very excited about.

- It's taken me a over a full month to read Bridgerton but I hope only a couple more days if I get peace and quiet to finish it.

- I won £100 worth of stuff from Benji's over on Twitter and I''ll be sharing it all on my Insta stories this week! From coasters, a heavy throw to some really cute mugs I love all the goodies especially as I'm in the midst of having a major clearout and can't wait for everything to have it's own place.

- I downloaded Pokemon Go which has really motivated to get out and walk more and am really enjoying doing the research quests in the game.

February -

- I'm going to push myself to write more this month and really get a handle on my blogging including celebrating 10 years since I started my book blog A Bookish Redhead and have so many exciting things planned.

- Walking 200,000 in February sounds easy right? Cause that's what I'm going to try and accomplish so I need it to sound easy though it really doesn't! I'm off to a poor start but am not gonna let it get the best off me!

- Finish my bedroom and clearout! I stillhave a few frames to hang and little bits and pieces to add so I'm hoping I can add the finishing touches this month!

What do you have planned this month? Let me know below what's been a January highlight for you?

Hello September - 12 Things You Can Do If You're Not Feeling The Autumn Months

1 Sept 2020

Can you believe it's September already? Autumn officially starts on September 22nd but it's okay if you're starting it early like me.

I'm excited to dig out my woolly hats and also my burgundy dress (as you can see on Instagram HERE) that I wore on a night out weekend just past. I'm  also looking forward to enjoying a hot chocolate from a Miss Bohemia mug or planning a Halloween outfit. Even if there's no going out this year I'm still planning an outfit and full makeup look as it's one of my favourite times of the year. There's also cosy movie nights in, extra blankets and hot water bottles.

Autumn lets us remember the many things that are important and we're grateful for, it's the prettiest season in my opinion with all the leaves changing but there's also the downside.. the days are shorter, nights longer/darker. If you struggle with the upcoming months then check out my list below of 12 things you can do to bring a little brightness back into your day.

1) Revamp your wardrobe - prepare and plan outfits, do a little shopping! (Primark Scarves will be out soon! *Fingers crossed*

2) Have a relaxing bubble bath, light some tealights and grab a feel good book!

3) Enjoy a movie night in with friends, a partner, family or even by yourself! Means you don't have to share your snacks then!

4) Have an Autumn theme photoshoot? It's less expensive than it sounds! I usually plead with my sister to take my pictures!

5) Go for a walk in the fresh air and stand on the crunchy leaves as you go.

6) Treat yourself to a hot chocolate or your favourite warm drink.

7) Get crafty - you don't even have to use alot of money for it. Colouring-in helps you relax, you could even try making your own Christmas cards. The Works and Poundland always have cheap but amazing quality items available. Or why not start a bullet journal?

8) Jump in puddles! You are never too old!

9) Plan a romantic night away or even a fun trip with your bestie.

10) Change up your space and redecorate. Home Bargains always have modern, little items to include in your home.

11) Light some spicy candles - have a look for some new scents. If you're like me then the month ahead will be spicy and cinnemon.

12) Start planning Christmas - Sometimes it's good to start planning a little early to prepare yourself from rushing. I know I'm starting my Christmas planning this month as well or plan some trips for the months you enjoy. I find it helps having something to look forward to.

Do you enjoy the coming months? What's one thing you do to enjoy the darker days? Let me know in the comments below!

Local Loves: Denise Byers Candles & Instagram Giveaway

5 Aug 2020

I first discovered Denise Byers Candles roughly 6+ years ago and since then they have been my go-to candles for my home as I'm utterly obsessed with them and always telling friends and family to check them out or buying them as gifts.

Denise Byers Candles is a local business often found at a local Saturday market in Newtownards. They specialise in candles of  all different scents from Lenore, Zoflora, Cola bottle and even Chanel No 5! Plus a whole heap more. They offer votive candles, wax bars, oils and my favourite tartlets. They even offer starter sets (perfect for gifts) which include a burner and wax bars. Check out their Facebook page HERE

The fragrance lasts which is the most important thing for me being the pet owner of an indoor cat, this means I'm always worried about little odors but even after my burners been long blown out the scent still lingers in the air, leaving a refreshing feel.

I would opt to purchase from Denise Byers Candles before Yankee or another brand as I love the design of them, the scents are fresh and unique plus they're really colourful. I've placed them in my bedroom, hall and even bathroom sometimes the same fragrance or a variety of ones.

NOTE: Never leave candles unattended for long periods of time, around children or pets and don't leave the house with them lit.

Check out the giveaway I'm doing over on Instagram to win a wax bar of my favourite scent open to UK residents only. Enter HERE.

What do you think of Denise Byers Candles? Do you have a favourite summery scent? Let me know in the comments below.

Hello August! Happy Birthday Month To Me!

1 Aug 2020

Hello August! It's my birthday month which means I'm very excited as I'm hoping to shop, eat and have alottle lota fun! ;)

There are a few things I have planned this month including some things I'd like to do and last year I stopped writing to-do lists as I felt there was too much pressure to complete the tasks, a could do list though contains tasks I 'could' do but if I don't? Well there's no disheartening feeling and I can simply add them to the following months list.

My August could do list -

- Zumba with Kat -

It's been quite a few weeks since I had my last virtual class and I'm wanting so bad to do it again but with not feeling the best I wasn't able to.

- Have an Ice-Cream Sundae -

- Start saving for Christmas -

- Collect shells at the beach -

I haven't been to a beach all summer and I had planned (in my head) so many beach visits so I'm determined to at least get there once before the summer ends and collect some shells for crafting.

- Donate to charity -

- Start making Christmas Cards -

- Have lunch with a friend -

- Do something for me -

I do have quite a few August plans I'm looking forward to such as cocktails with my bestie as I've not seen her since February which means there will be so much to catch up on! I have a night in planned and takeaway with my sister... I've gone through the list of takeaways I like and after all the many "no's" my sister said, we finally got a YES...no to Pizza though! Plus I'm grabbing a bite to eat with my mum and having our daily cocktail for my birthday!

I turn 27 which honestly stings me quite abit to say out loud and decided to have a massive clearout which meant finding some treasure in amongst quite a few cards I'd kept over the years.  (why do we always keep birthday and Christmas cards?)

From the above pics you can see I still have two baby cards and a ladybird my Pappy got me I think for my third birthday that I used to take EVERYWHERE! I would walk for hours if it meant playing with this thing and it's still in an okay condition! You just won't see me taking it anywhere nowadays though.

Again I'm so looking forward to this month as it means we are also getting closer to Autumn nights and new wardrobe changes!

10 Pieces Advice I Would Have Given Myself 10 Years Ago... 10 Years Photo Challenge!

2 Jan 2020

Recently I've been seeing so many people on different social media platforms share two photos side by side with 10 years apart. It's fun and nice to see the differences and take into consideration how many changes there are BUT there is also one thing I've noticed and that's how much negativity there is surrounding this challenge.
