My Experience Dating A Gamer and Why I'd Encourage Others To

26 Oct 2020

This is a sponsored post.
Picture this, January 2020 the world is normal, a girl goes online and messages a guy she finds attractive, from his profile bio that filled her with laughter, right down to his “single and ready to get nervous around anyone I find attractive” t-shirt his personality shone through and she knew instantly she wanted to get to know him better.
Two dates, a worldwide pandemic with a lot of virtual dating and virtual gaming together then more in-person dates after the lockdown was lifted *cheers* that girl is now in a happy, loving relationship.
That girl is me, and I’m dating a gamer.
Or well I was... I’m now in a relationship with them.
In my experience Gamer dating is so much fun and something I believe many should try. When I first started dating my boyfriend he would tell me all about his console games and they sounded fascinating, the attention to detail, the story that goes along with it I was interested because he was sharing something he was passionate about with me just like I would talk about my love of reading and new book releases with him we were both taking the time to talk about things we enjoy doing and that’s what dating is all about, getting to know one another and wanting to spend more time with that person.

Although gaming can be seen as a bit of a hobby niche I think we need to give gamers a chance as the person behind the game and screen can be fascinating and interesting. Not only that but think about all the time and effort they put into solving a game.. When not gaming they’ll put that effort into your dates. (hopefully)
If you're wanting to check out the world of gamer dating then I suggest you check out Gamer’s Dates. The free gamer dating site where you can create your own profile, share the games you’re interested in, and chat with like-minded people who share the same interests… Hopefully, you'll find yourself your very own gamer.
According to The Entertainment Software Association, video game players are also more likely to pursue healthier lifestyles”  which can improve moods and also make you feel better mentally. Being around positive people gives you an instant boost also which sounds like a win-win to me.

If you’re worried though the person you are dating will be spending all their time gaming it could be the perfect opportunity for you to find something you’re interested in as well. My boyfriend and I have many individual interests and that’s why I feel we work, I respect his time when he needs or wants to play games and he respects mine when I'm reading.
Gaming doesn’t have to be all one-sided though or all console gaming as there are so many board games out there you could enjoy together that perhaps could bring out a little competitiveness between you both. For instance the night we played Pokemon Monopoly the game lasted for 4 hours and it’s one of the best nights I’ve had just sitting up playing games and finding something we were able to both enjoy whilst spending time with each other.
There are many virtual gaming ideas you can take advantage of as well when getting to know the gamer you’re dating. Check out my list of 5 Virtual Date Ideas where I mention different gaming options especially good for being on the go or taking 10 minutes away at night to spend with each other after a busy day.
My overall experience dating a gamer has been a positive one and I'm hoping it will continue to be, I've also found a love of gaming back for myself and looking forward to giving that a go for myself as well.
Have you ever dated a gamer? Do you enjoy playing games in your relationship? Let me know in the comments below.
I did not meet my partner on the dating site mentioned in this post.

A Datey Date To Remember - Bowling & Crazy Golf

15 Aug 2020

On Tuesday I had a date where I went Ten Pin Bowling then onto play crazy golf which I'm still smiling about whilst writing this post as I had so much fun and hope to do it again soon..

We opted for the Dundonald Ice-Bowl and I was so pleased with everything they had set up in place regarding social distancing and also witnessing myself after a family had left how thorough they are cleaning everything used making me feel more comfortable and relaxed in the space around me. The customer service was excellent and I would encourage you if you're local to go and check it out for yourself and show support to the local places around us. Not just that but when you go Crazy Golfing be sure to pick up a loyalty card and for every 4 stamps, you earn a free 18 hole game to enjoy! If that's not reason enough I don't know what is.

For a week or two before though I was running my mouth telling L I was going to beat him and win... it's quick to say that didn't happen and he won... all games. *rolls eyes* I'm blaming it on the fact it's been roughly 10+ years since the last time I played and he just got lucky.. I'll win next time! Also, I was wearing flats which made me feel so tiny when I usually wear boots.. height must matter in bowling.

As you can tell from the scores I need a lot of practice and even if he was the best cheerleader for saying 'you got this' every time to me 'cause I definitely didn't. He on the other hand was actually really good even providing tips and techniques I should try. (We'll keep it between us I said that)

The crazy golf I enjoyed so much more mainly due to the moving around and it was something I've wanted to try for many years - definitely not down to the many sexual innuendos I was saying that was keeping me entertained or that I got the ball in the hole first time, excitedly on the one he said he struggled with which resulted in me jumping like an idiot on the spot! I also managed to hit the ball in the water, the bushes, and nowhere near where it was meant to. But.. next time! Right? We decided on the 36 holes but when he mentioned it entailed two hours on our feet I was not amused though it's true what they say... time flies when you're having fun. Even in new shoes.

This is the first-ever real fun date I've had in my dating history that wasn't lunch or coffee and although I love those dates because of Timbits and pizza. This was honestly the best date I've been on that allowed me the opportunity to break out of my comfort zone, let go, and honestly get lost in the moment. I can't recommend enough to others - Have a fun date! Laugh your butt off and allow yourself to jump on the spot, smile like a goof, and loosen up! You won't have the awesome company I did. But it'll be worth it.

What do you think of these two ideas for a date? Have you been on any dates post-lockdown? Are there any date ideas you recommend I try? Let me know in the comments below.

My Biggest Dating Disaster Stories

23 Jul 2020

I'm often asked to retell a dating disaster just to give someone a giggle which is because I've been on dates with Mr ex obsessed, Mr still in love with his ex or Mr singing All About that Bass by Meghan Trainor!

Safe to say my friends could be right... I have some of the worst dates or dating history! So much so my best friend got me this 'Litte Miss Goes online dating' as a joke for a Christmas pressie! But... some of the story rings true!

My friend can sense a red flag way before I've even said a "hey" sometimes and I always think to myself 'can we not just give this one a chance?' but no sooner have I thought it that the red flag presents itself and my friends right! Again!

I guess you're right

"Would you like to go on a date?"

The question we like to hear on a dating app, the chance to meet someone, a spark of hope for a hopeless romantic like me and then comes no originality after you accept "great, lets go for coffee"

Wait? What?

Another dreaded coffee date, the baristas in Tim Hortons or Del Pieros probably assume I've a revolving door of males in my life the number of times I've been on first dates in their establishments, or well for a coffee! Is coffee a date? When I don't even drink it? People have asked me before why didn't I suggest something else? But everytime I did it was rejected with "a coffee is quick" so I slowly gave up.

For about 3 months I said YES to every date invitation for a couple of reasons! I struggled to say no, (that swiftly changed) and 2 because I like giving people chances. I believe you could click in person if not the best online or vice versa! Click online and not in person which seems to be the norm for me...

Below I've written the ones that really stand out for me and I've used their first initials instead of names.

1) My *first ever* date consisted of M struggling to find his wallet in his jeans back pocket (don't ask how) for about 4 minutes whilst in the queue, I'd already ordered, paid and was sat sipping my coke when he finally found it, before this though he told me we were going somewhere nice... KFC!

Vegetarian Mads Mikkelsen GIF

Which would have been fine if only I wasn't a vegetarian and eat there! He then started singing 'All About that Bass' by Meghan Trainor and doing the Rush hour Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan car dance whilst we were sitting at a table! And before anyone asks... he was not joking around!

2) First impressions were great, S was lovely then after an hour of talking constantly about his ex I asked him if he was over her (obvious he wasn't) to which he replied "I'm in love with her, I'm not ready to date but.. this ice-cream is lovely"

awkward

Him: "Would you like to go out again?"
Me: SURE! I'd like to... (remember I said I struggled to say no?)

3) R seemed pretty nice only he spent 1 hour talking about how close he was to his ex, how much he would always love her like a sister but occasionally cuddle in bed, that they would always remain close. I said all the right things.. that's nice! That's lovely... till he told me he'd last slept with her the night before our date... which I didn't need to know. Only a first date.. not exclusive. It was the whole "love her like a sister" but that sent red flags my way!

4) I met J at the Belfast Museum, this was our second date! There were these amazing clothes on display and a fashion exhibition I wanted to take photos off to blog about... but he complained, gave me a funny look and walked away from me whilst I tried to take more pictures but then I lost my interest and just stopped when he kept making me feel really uncomfortable about the things that interested me in the museum. I didn't have the heart to tell J there was pizza in his beard and I was in pain from an injury so needed to head home to rest when I was in the middle of telling him I'd had a lovely time BU" - he popped his lips on my lips cutting me off whilst I froze unmoving for what felt like minutes but only mere seconds as he holds his lips against mine then pulls away, smiles a big smile and skips! Actually skips across the road... he never liked to text less it was on a day we were meeting (I only met him twice) and I never heard from him again after he skipped away.. I messaged him a week later saying I didn't think we clicked but wished him the best and he agreed... but honestly! There was no signals or warning he was wanting a kiss...

kiss

5) I met (I think his name began with a C - oops!) in a Cafe Nero, he seemed alright until he started talking about if I'd be into tying him up, handcuffing him and publicly humiliating him as well as getting more people involved! The two old women beside me heard the whole thing and one choked on her coffee. I quickly said I had to leave as I was meeting my aunt and he offered to walk me to her house to which I declined. He then stood outside the coffee shop and watched me for a few minutes. I ducked into Savers and thankfully when I came back out he was gone but I rushed to my aunts close by just to be on the safe side!

6) I'd had a really nice time with M, we went for drinks and for a walk. He told me wanted a relationship, and to take things slow and insisted he pays for our drinks. I even accepted his invitation of a lift to the bus station as my feet were killing me in my new shoes. He was on his phone when I was buckling my seatbelt in the front of his van when he set the phone down and started the engine we were just on the road when google started talking "Hotels close to your location" I just looked at him and he laughed saying "I don't know why that happened but.. we could look some up" he then sighed, huffed and dropped me off at the bus station!

what? Alison Brie

7)  I really liked this guy and spoke to him for quite a few weeks before meeting. Every time it was suggested or planned something came up with him but when we finally managed to lock a date down I was pleased! I met him and things were great, he went home to England for a week then came back and we went on a second date for a couple drinks then he invited me back to his house for a drink and to talk (I accepted as it was only a drink) but then told me he loved me, had always loved me and couldn't go a day without me... after I told him this was far too soon and freaked me out he ghosted me!

Say What? Run

I think it's true what my sister says! I have problems with second dates or that things start becoming clearer and mens true intentions reveal themselves after a second date! Or even it could be the type I attract! For whatever reason, I am thoroughly done with online dating for a while... (hopefully)

There are plenty more online dating tales I plan on spilling right here so be sure to subscribe or follow on Instagram to keep up to date!

When I blogged about 5 Virtual Date Ideas I had no inclination to give them a go myself.. I had gotten the idea when the guy I'm currently dating suggested watching a movie together and the blogger lightbulb in me clicked on "this would be an awesome blog post idea" I wrote the blog post and hit publish. Then the message came... "So when are we planning this virtual date of ours?"

First Date Tips When Meeting From Online Dating Sites

6 Oct 2017

Online dating can be a daunting and embarrassing experience for anyone who gives it a go. Read my post HERE on why my first experience was daunting. I'm not ashamed to admit I was on a dating site. What's the harm in it? Celebrities like Hilary Duff and Anne Robinson gave it a go so why not YOU?

Some Things Are Worth Waiting For

7 Aug 2017

A concept I truly accepted recently is that some things really are worth waiting for.

I'm impatient to say the least and it was not easy one bit being kept in the dark regarding 'this gift' when everyone else knew!

My online dating experience.. and why I show my middle finger to it!

23 Apr 2014

I signed up for an account on Plenty of Fish around 4 weeks ago and I think it deserves a name change to Plenty of Pigs! (No actually.. I love pigs.. pigs are too nice to even be considered in the same sentence) More like Plenty of Morons! (I know very original)

I decided to embrace the unknown and give online dating a try although sitting here now I know my whole perspective has changed. I was insulted and left feeling a mixture of emotions. Apparently alot of men feel brave behind a computer and a keyboard and think it's okay to insult and give verbal abuse to someone they know nothing about or to judge them by a picture.  I think they should grow some balls, grow up and respect a lady! (I promise am a lady.. most of the time! ;))

doubtful

The majority of men MESSAGED ME not the other way around. I feel the need to point that out plus I had it stated on my profile my body type, what I was looking for, (which I don't believe matters) and that I'd send them a picture upon their request!)

There was one thing that seemed to stick the whole time and that was my weight, my fat, my belly, my over sized stomach! They all didn't want to talk to me after I sent them a picture of myself. I know I should feel insulted but I don't because it just proves I obviously am to big for there shallow little minds. They also seemed to think that because of my weight I was attracted to them and out for what I could get! Anyone that knows me well knows I'm high maintenance plus I may be a BBW but that don't mean I'm attracted to every guy in sight.. I do get options!

Three things I learnt from my experience:
1, Those men cannot read.
2, Those men must have only been looking for one thing only (S.E.X) and therefore did not bother to read my profile!
3, Read number 1 and 2!
Woah!
That being said I did talk to a few genuine guys who seemed nice enough but I didn't really feel a click with any of them.. it seemed to be all heading in the friendship zone. Probably cause I can have a bit of banter with them and a good conversation. Although there was one... it seemed perfect at first! After 10 messages he told me he thought I was the one and I fell head over heels in love with him so when he asked me to give him my bank details so he could come visit me I instantly jumped at the chance...
....
.....
......
Do people really think you're that gullible (stupid) in todays day and age? REALLY? Actually don't answer that.. I decided the distance was to far and going to be a struggle... he was heartbroken.. I was happy my money was safe and we went our separate ways.. (I deleted his ass soon as he sent the first message!)
One thing that bugged me though was a guy who felt the need message and call me a whore, fat, ugly and more insulting names from the description of myself shown on my profile.. he was a father with a child under one year! Can't help but think of the great example he's setting for his son on how to treat a woman..
Not to insult them or to offend and lower myself to their level but one thing I find attractive on a guy is text speak and someone who has good grammar. Something which these guys sadly did not have.. It was so hard to try and figure out what some of them meant, I really badly wanted to comment on it but for my better nature I didn't.
I still have my profile for those I'm talking to because they are really interesting guys although I'm not actively looking for a relationship, I just know that perhaps online dating isn't for me.. I think I'm ready to delete my profile so am showing my middle finger to it and putting it down as a lesson well learnt!
So I leave you with something I came across the other day for all men out there to think about.. something which men have been saying for years.. something which I think all women should remember for future reference if ever insulted about their weight by a man..

In my head they have this expression.. because they know it's true!
Utter Disbelief
(The site (POF) in itself was amazing, great features, graphics and a really good easy to use mobile app for smart phones. I love everything about POF especially how you were able to upload private pictures. In this post I in no way want to discourage you from signing up for an account, you may have better luck than me! The only problem with POF for me were the users. There is humour in this post because if I didn't dissect a little humour it would have been a big long drone!)
What do you think of online dating? Have you tried it? What were your experiences?
